The Classic Keel BoatsWe were originally encouraged to organise racing for classic keel dayboats since they do not fit the criteria for the British Classic Yacht Club and require courses similar to those that the Metre boats sail. With a level of support that exceeded expectation and feedback that was extremely encouraging, this event is already firmly established amongst those that came in the last 2 years - and, we can expect a considerable increase in boats this year, judging by the enthusiastic level of enquiries.

Feedback from competitors highlighted the benefits of committee boat starts and separate clearly defined race tracks without interference from other fleets with a mixture of windward-leeward, round-the-cans and inshore passage races contributing to the regatta ethos. A full social programme also engendered the formation of a classic boats community amongst owners and crew who have a remarkable passion for these boats. There are many such classes as a result of almost every major Yacht Club, at some time in their history, commissioning a one-design for local racing. Frequently, this was to provide more economical sailing than in the Metre classes and many of these boats can trace their heritage back to the "classic" design of the times. In addition to the established classes (Daring, Sunbeam, X One Design, Bembridge Redwing, Bembridge One Designs) a commitment has already been received from the Dragons (who will race their Classic Championship during the event) and Yarmouth One Designs. Other classes are welcome and will get a class start with sufficient numbers or a class result in a mixed fleet. Or, individual representatives of any class may sail in a handicap fleet so that the event is inclusive for everybody that would be eligible to race. For instance we would hope that boats such as IoDs, 30sq.m, and Tumlare will be represented - others such as Yorkshire One Design, Gareloch, Burnham One Design, Swallow and Classic Flying Fifteens , etc. may wish to join in; they would be very welcome and serve to broaden awareness of these classes that exist all round the country.
Anniversaries in 2010:
It is to be hoped that this event will provide an opportunity for enthusiastic owners to enjoy mixing with similar boats and display (flaunt?) their attractions (of their boats that is). Class Captains and individual boat owners are encouraged to contact us to organise attendance appropriate to the needs of the class. As well as individual boats of all relevant types, classes that may wish to participate include:
