Household Division & Royal Yacht Squadron RegattasThe Household Division Yacht Club hold a one day regatta every year on the Saturday before Cowes Week (this year on Sat 24 Jul) based from the Royal Yacht Squadron shore line in Cowes - please note, the bearing of the line changed in 2009. The regatta is run under the SCRA Solent Keelboat Series NoR & SIs, with a "start line" entry (i.e. as a yacht crosses the start line it is deemed to have entered, not before), but we need class lists submitted to the RYS before racing.
The Household Division YC offer some amazing trophies
Similar to last year the regatta is the day after The Metre Regatta finishes and we are delighted to offer a start to the three Metre Classes (12s, 8s & 6s), as well as any other keelboat classes that wish to race. In the evening a cocktail party & prize giving is held in the RYS to which the winning owner and crew of each class is invited. At the prize giving a pretty substantial silver trophy is given to the winning owner of each class that they get to keep for 1 year. On the Sunday the RYS take over for the day and they replicate the Saturday race format (without the party or prizes) to allow for a full weekend's racing, so there is further opportunity to race then as well if wished. Typically there are 10 starts at 10 minute intervals (similar to Cowes Week), starting with the 12 Metres then 8 Metres, 6 Metres, Darings, Etchells, Dragons, Swallows, Sunbeams, Flying Fifteens and XODs. However, this is not set in stone and any other keelboat classes that would like to race are very welcome, each class receiving its own start. Watch the Royal Yacht Squadron site for updates on the event. Class Captains/Sailing Secs should contact Rupert Erskine Crum (HDYC Regatta Secretary & PRO) +44 (0)7976 771975 or the Club Secretary at RYS +44 (0) 1983 292191. |
